Cyrilla, aka Waterhawk
Cyrilla, aka Waterhawk, 1946
On the ways at Jensen Motor Boat circa 1946-1947 |
Original Name: Cyrilla Location Built: Portage Bay Commissioned by: Captain Judd Designed By: Edwin Monk LOA: 42' Beam: 12 Power: NA Current Name: WaterHawk Current Owner: Mei Waterhouse Current Home Port: Jensen's Motoboat Co. |
The original owner and the guy who commissioned Jensen's to build the boat- was Captain Judd a United Airlines Pilot. As the boat was under construction at Jensen's in 1945, Captain Judd was back flying for United. But one fine day as he was walking out to his plane he was stopped by a couple of Navy "NATS" Naval Air Transport Service guys, who asked him for his idendification. And they informed him, that he was now a member of the US Navy
& he had 24 hours to say his goodbyes and report to the "NATS" the next morning.
While Judd was on active duty in the South Pacific flying Navy brass anywhere & everywhere they needed to be, The Cyrilla was being completed at Jensens. When Judds tour of Duty was complete, he was offered a better deal by United to Fly routes in the Northeast so he sold the boat to Verner Jensen, Anchor's Uncle who actually named the boat Cyrilla.
When Verner decided to sell the boat many years later it was renamed the "Manana". Eventually the boat was sold to Bill Waterhouse and renamed the Waterhawk. Bill and Mei Waterhouse chose to keep the boat at Jensen's which had been her home since the day she hit the water. I have been told that Bill used to love to come down to the boat with his ever present pet & friend, his dog "Radar", and they would sit on the aft deck and watch the boats go by on Portage Bay. The Boat is still at Jensens and in excellent condition.
