After WWII was over Stan Sayres wanted to get into racing as soon as
possible. So sometime in mid 1947, Stan & Ted Jones got together
to design a new hydroplane. After the design was complete,
Stan took the drawings to Anchor Jensen
to look them over and asked if he would build the new boat.
At the time Jensen Motor Boat was very busy, building and repairing
US Coast Guard and Navy vessels. Anchor told Stan that under the pressure
of their current contracts, there was no way he could fit another project in
at that time. And that he really didn't like the design of the boat especially
the form of the sponsons.

So Ted Jones promised Stan that he could build the boat at his home
and have it ready on an agreed upon date. Well a lot of time went by (like about 7 months and there was no boat),Ted couldn't keep up to the schedule. When Stan realized that Ted was not going to be able to live up to his commitment,
Stan was forced to go back to his old friend Anchor Jensen and see what he
could work out. After some serious convincing Anchor agreed to finish building
the boat at JMC, but that he didn't have time to fool around with the thing, so
whatever specifications Ted had indicated, thats how the boat was going to be built.
And JMC did get the job finished in a timely fashion following the specifications
set forth in the Jones design. Now it was rumored that the boat ran at 91 to 96 MPH which sounds great for a oversized 225ci boat. But Mr. D'Eath the gentlemen who purchased the boat from Stan was not very happy with the results he achieved, which were more in the neighborhood of 76 MPH. We have the letters in our Archives should you like to read them.

The Seed of Controversy
In my opinion , The problems in getting Slo-mo III built was the beginning
of an ever growing fracture in the relationship between Ted and Anchor and Stan.
To use an analogy: You know when you're driving down the highway and
you hear that sharp "ping" against your windshield. And you see that tiny
little hole and you start to swear to yourself. Well, after you
get your composure back, you begin the process of adjusting to the fact that the hole is going to be there for awhile and you might as well try to deal with it.
But then, all of a sudden other little fractures start to spread out from the center of that tiny hole and before you know it, your tiny hole is a spider web of fractures, threatening to collapse in on you at any moment.
Well, When Ted couldn't finish the III on time, and Anchor was asked to
come to the rescue, after explaining his previous commitments to Stan,"that is the moment Ted Jones hits the windshield of Stan Sayres and especially Anchor Jensen"
and the fracture continues to spread.
